The Alcone Engineering
Inc. HBS makes use of a Socket Head Cap Screw, SHCS instead
of a hex head bolt. The SHCS provides improved access to
the bolt head for installation. The head of the SHCS is as
small in outside diameter as the reduced head bolts provided
by header manufacturers. Further the SHCS allows the use
of a "ball-driver" wrench which can engage the SHCS at a
significant angle (28 deg.) relative to its centerline. The
ball-driver is itself smaller in diameter than the head of
the SHCS, further easing access. A picture of the three components
of the system is shown below. The Alcone Engineering Inc.
Header Bolt System solves the three major problems associated
with exhaust header installations:
Problem : Access
to bolt heads is restricted
Solution :
SHCS allows use of ball driver to facilitate access to header
bolt.
Problem : Bolts
loosen over time
Solution : Cross-drilled
head for safety wire or hitch pin
Problem : Header
flanges distort
Solution : Heavy
washer, specially shaped to clear primary tube, reinforces
header flange, easy access to header bolt heads ensures that
bolts are actually installed and torqued to proper levels.
NOTE: That all
the pieces are large and easy to handle no small circlips
or cotter pins to drop under the vehicle. Patent pending.
